Fighting Prostate Cancer

At Texas Radiotherapy, we have a compassionate team ready to help you fight cancer. If you have (or may have) prostate cancer, please give us a call.

Dr. Cavey has extensive experience treating prostate cancer and regularly uses advanced treatment methods like brachytherapy, intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), and stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT/SRS). This type of care reduces side-effects and shortens treatment times.

Diagnosis

Prostate cancer is one of the most common cancers found in men and, when it’s detected early, it is highly curable. That’s why it’s extremely important to begin screening at age 45. If you have a family history or are African American, screening is recommended at age 40.

Screening involves a Digital Rectal Examination (DRE) or your doctor will measure the Prostatic Specific Antigen (PSA) with a routine blood test. An elevated PSA level is often the first sign of prostate cancer.

Dr. Cavey offers advanced diagnosis tools that will supplement a PSA or your doctor’s DRE and clearly define your cancer’s stage. Dr. Cavey deploys the use of transrectal ultrasound-guided biopsies and MR-fusion transperineal biopsies. Learn more here.

Treatment

Our patients are like family to us. That’s why we’ll work with you to craft a personalized treatment plan that suits you. Treatment will vary on a case-by-case basis but the options include active surveillance, surgery, radiation therapy (which can be External Beam Radiation Therapy or brachytherapy), and/or hormone therapy.
