At Texas Radiotherapy, our people are only matched by our technology. Being family-owned, we review and select the technology ourselves. We choose the same type of technology that many research and university-led centers use. We offer excellent treatment within a warm and family-like environment.

Not all radiation therapy technologies have the same capabilities. Our chosen technology utilizes recent advancement with proven clinical outcomes, reduced side effects and shortened treatment times.

At Texas Radiotherapy, we only use state-of-the-art technology to help our patients conquer cancer.

Types of Technology that we use

Dr. Cavey personally selects all technology that is used, and he and his very experienced team interpret the data related to your care, to maximize your outcome.

Here are the key types of treatment technologies that Dr. Cavey uses:

External Beam Radiation (EBRT)

Dr. Cavey uses external beam radiation through an advanced treatment system with the Radixact by Accuray.

The Radixact delivers high-energy beams precisely to the tumor location to destroy cancer cells.

Dr. Cavey also utilizes real-time tumor tracking during SBRT, IMRT and VMAT through the use of Synchrony. Only 5% of LINACs in the U.S. can track a moving target, and the Radixact with Synchrony delivers against a moving target (tumors can move slightly as you breathe or change position).

Here are the types of external beam radiation that Dr. Cavey uses:

Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT)

  • IMRT lets Dr. Cavey shape his radiation beams to match your tumor’s 3D dimensions. He uses a computer-controlled external radiation beam for this.

SBRT, SRS and SABR

  • Dr. Cavey uses high-precision radiation therapy for various cancer needs. He selects the technology based on your cancer’s type, stage and location.

Image Guided Radiotherapy (IGRT) with a linear accelerator (LINAC)

  • Image guided radiotherapy (IGRT) uses frequent imaging scans before or during your treatment to target only your tumor. This spares your healthy tissue.
  • The linear accelerator (LINAC) uses electricity and microwaves to speed up very small particles, and this creates energy/beams to treat your cancer.

Volumetric Modulated Arc Therapy (VMAT)

  • Volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT) is used by Dr. Cavey. It is an advanced high-precision external beam radiation to treat cancer.

Adaptive Radiotherapy (ART)

  • Dr. Cavey uses adaptive radiotherapy. He combines high-quality imaging with AI (that he reads and interprets) to adjust your radiation plan before or during your visit.

Internal Radiation

Dr. Cavey is an expert and one of the top doctors in the U.S. for low dose brachytherapy.

Low Dose Brachytherapy

  • Low dose brachytherapy is a minimally invasive procedure and considered a gold standard in prostate cancer care. Dr. Cavey places very small radioactive seeds right by your tumor. The radiation is released slowly (until the radiation is gone). This treatment is very pin-pointed and does minimal damage to nearby tissue. These seeds deliver targeted radiation that destroys malignant cells and cause tumor regression. These seeds stay in your prostate and do not need to be removed. They are not harmful.

Precision Technology Platforms

Dr. Cavey and Sara Cavey worked together to select their key precision technology platforms. They selected technology that excels at cancer treatment.

Radixact® with TomoHelical™
Proven clinical superiority

The following is a link to a clinical trial that compared Helical Tomotherapy versus RapidArc in patients with head-and-neck tumors. The study found that patients treated with Helical Tomotherapy had improved survival with less side effects than those treated with RapidArc.

Function: Dose Delivery

How It Works: Delivers continuous 360-degree radiation beams shaped precisely to the tumor.

Key Patient Benefit: Pinpoint Accuracy — Maximizes radiation directly to the tumor with sub-millimeter accuracy.

The technology in the field of radiation therapy progressed from IMRT to VMAT (Volumetric Modulated Arc Therapy) in the early 2000’s. With this technology, radiation is delivered using a beam that continuously rotates around the patient. The resulting plans are improved as compared to IMRT and the treatment times are shorter.

At Texas Radiotherapy, our linear accelerator is a Radixact from Accuray, the next generation Tomotherapy introduced in 2016. The Radixact delivers external radiation therapy in an even more advanced fashion than the VMAT delivered by other linear accelerators in the market. With the helical delivery of the Radixact, a patient’s treatment is much more precisely delivered; high-doses are better confined to the target and dose to the surrounding normal tissues is reduced even further.

Synchrony®
Real-time personalized adaptive radiotherapy treatment delivery

Function: Real-Time Motion Tracking

How It Works: Continuously tracks tumor motion and adjusts the radiation beam in real-time.

Key Patient Benefit: Comfort & Freedom — Allows natural, comfortable breathing during treatment without requiring rigid immobilization.

Target tracking and automatic, real-time motion synchronization for the Radixact System® using Artificial Intelligence.

Over 15 years ago, Accuray revolutionized tumor and patient motion management with our Synchrony® real-time motion synchronization technology. With more than a decade of clinical proof behind Synchrony for the CyberKnife System, Accuray now brings Synchrony® to the Radixact® System. While others will use gating or other uncomfortable methods to try and compensate for motion, our Synchrony radiotherapy treatment planning technology actively tracks and corrects for it — automatically, continuously and in real time. This ultra-precise personalized adaptive delivery can help to improve clinical outcomes and reduce radiation therapy side effects, while potentially shortening treatment times.

Benefits Of Synchrony

Improved Clinical Outcomes

Confidently maximizes the dose delivered to the target, minimizes dose to healthy tissue — knowing that treatment delivery will automatically account for target movement — to improve treatment efficacy and enhance long-term cancer control.

Reduced Side Effects and Improved Patient Quality of Life

Minimize margins and ensure that target or patient movement does not result in irradiation of surrounding healthy tissues and organs at risk, reducing side effects and giving patients a better quality of life during and after treatment.

Shortened Treatment Times and Enhanced Patient Experience

Enable truly continuous treatment delivery — no gated treatment delivery or interruptions for patient repositioning — to optimize clinical efficiency. Shorten treatment times and eliminate the need for patient restraints and breath-holds to reduce discomfort and improve the overall patient experience.

ClearRT
ClearRT™ helical kVCT high-fidelity imaging will enable clinicians to see more, know more, and do more

Function: High-Definition 3D Imaging

How It Works: Produces clear, high-resolution 3D scans before and during every session.

Key Patient Benefit: Clear Targeting & Fast Setup — Removes image blur so your team can rapidly verify your exact positioning and anatomy each day.

ClearRT will produce clear, high-fidelity kVCT images to provide soft-tissue visualization and clinical capabilities like no other radiation therapy system in the world.

  • Versatility to fully image anatomy to be treated, regardless of size, with flexible fields of view

PreciseRTX® Retreatments

precisertx

Function: Re-Treatment Planning

How It Works: Evaluates prior radiation doses to safely design new treatment plans.

Key Patient Benefit: Safe Future Care — Enables fast, safe re-treatment planning if radiation is ever needed again in the same area.

PreciseRTX® accelerates and automates the re-planning process to make re-treatment more efficient for practices and more effective for patients. Intelligent integration enables importation of previous treatment plan data from Accuray and non-Accuray systems, and automatically deforms previous treatment plan contours and previously delivered dose onto the new treatment planning CT image. By deforming the prior data sets, much more accurate, effective and safe retreatments are possible than with other systems that lack this capability.
